Palbociclib is an oral targeted cancer therapy that targets cyclin-dependent kinases 4 and 6 (CDK4/6), key proteins that regulate cell division. By blocking these kinases, palbociclib slows the growth and spread of cancer cells. It is initially used to treat hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative advanced or metastatic breast cancer. Palbociclib is usually administered in combination with aromatase inhibitors or hormonal therapies such as fulvestrant, which increase their effectiveness in slowing cancer progression, particularly in postmenopausal women or patients whose cancer has progressed after prior endocrine therapy.
