Ponatinib is a targeted cancer therapy drug that belongs to a class of drugs called tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). It is specifically used to treat certain types of blood cancers, including chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) that are Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+). Philadelphia chromosome is a chromosome abnormality that leads to uncontrolled growth of white blood cells.
Ponatinib 15 mg
Ponatinib 15 mg targets cancer cells to treat patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ ALL) who resist or cannot tolerate other treatments. It proves particularly effective against the T315I mutation. Typically, we use the 15 mg dose for maintenance after an initial higher dose. However, we must carefully monitor patients due to the risk of serious side effects, including cardiovascular issues. Thus, we continually assess and manage any adverse effects effectively.
Ponatinib 45 mg
Ponatinib 45 mg is a potent tyrosine kinase inhibitor used to treat patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ ALL) who are resistant or intolerant to prior therapy. Specifically, it is highly effective for those with the T315I mutation. Typically, a 45 mg dose is administered as the initial treatment. However, due to the significant risk of cardiovascular events, careful monitoring is essential. Consequently, the dosage may be adjusted based on the patient’s response and the occurrence of side effects.
