Therapeutic Class: Anti-Rheumatic
Baricitinib belongs to the class of Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors, which play a crucial role in the inflammatory process by modulating the activity of JAK1 and JAK2 enzymes.
Indications of Barigen 4 mg:
1. Alopecia Areata: A treatment that effectively addresses significant hair loss associated with the condition.
2. Rheumatoid Arthritis: Treatment for adults with moderate to severe disease who have not responded adequately to, or are intolerant of, one or more disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs).
Safety Information:
Barigen 4 mg is associated with an increased rate of infections such as upper respiratory tract infections compared to a placebo. In the treatment of naïve patients, combination with Methotrexate resulted in an increased frequency of infections compared to Baricitinib monotherapy. The risks and benefits of treatment with Barigen 4 mg should be carefully considered before initiating therapy in patients with active, chronic, or recurrent infections. If an infection develops, the patient should be monitored carefully and Baricitinib therapy should be temporarily interrupted if the patient is not responding to standard therapy. Barigen 4 mg treatment should not be resumed until the infection resolves. Common side effects include nausea, upper respiratory tract infections, and headaches, which may occur during treatment.
Important Safety Precautions:
1. Infections: Monitor for tuberculosis (TB) and other infections before and during treatment.
2. Hematological Effects: Regular blood tests to monitor white blood cell counts.
3. Hepatic and Renal Function: Regular monitoring is essential for patients with pre-existing liver or kidney conditions.
Absolute Contraindications:
Do not use Barigen 4 mg in patients with active severe infections, as it may exacerbate these conditions. Do not recommend it for patients with severe liver disease due to potential complications. Contraindicate Barigen 4 mg during pregnancy and breastfeeding because it poses risks to the fetus and infants.
